Boekenhoutskloof's Wolftrap Range of South African Wines
This Wolftrap wine is part of our middle range and compliments the Porcupine Ridge range.
The Wolf Trap
Local legend and Lore in the Franschhoek valley speaks of ferocious wolves with gnashing teeth which howl all night long scaring off the locals. When the Boekenhoutskloof estate was restored in 1993 an ancient Wolftrap was discovered and left just in case, hence the name of this intriguing wine.
The Wolftrap is a Southern French style blend with Syrah and Mourvedre making up the majority of the blend. The small percentage of Viognier helps to lift the perfume profile of the wine. All the Oak was of French origin with a small percentage being new.
Tasting Notes:
The Syrah in the blend leads to the spicy, aromatic nose of the wine, supported by perfume from the Viognier component. A more peppery note is most likely due to the co-fermentation of some of the Syrah and Viognier. The Mourvedre adds structure and weight to the palate with good density. Ripe and upfront, the wine is early accessible and offers some ageing potential.
